Holistic Is Not A Four-Lettered Word

Quality (71)
Edgar Cisneros If you*re anything like me, then you*ve got a certain picture in your mind of what holistic is supposed to be. For me, it*s conjured up pictures of holy men, or shaman, doing a ritual dance while chanting mantras, and rubbing energy crystals in an effort to remove evil spirits from your life. It wasn*t until I started doing research for my radical book, 5 Keys To Health: A Holistic Approach when I realized that my preconceptions couldn*t have been more further from the truth. I had originally planned to write a book on fitness. I know that*s a pretty general term, but I intended it to be about how one can achieve health through physical fitness. It wasn*t going to be anything fancy. It was going to be a guide for the busy person, and how they can get fit, and stay that way while nonmoving being able to live a busy lifestyle. I’ve always been interested in health and fitness. As a matter of fact, I think I’m in pretty good shape. I work out with weights at least 3 days per week, and I engage in some sort of cardio- vascular activity at least 2 days per week. I eat right; I long after every work out. I don’t smoke or drink excessively. I thought I was doing pretty well. That is, until through the course of my research I came to realize that there’s a lot more to being healthy than being physically fit, and eating right. That’s when I ran into the word holistic. In the past, it’s always had a negative connotation for me. I’ve always thought of it as something used by supernatural crackpots trying to sell snake-oil. As it turns out, holistic is not what I thought it was. The realistic meaning of holistic is superficial at the whole system rather than just concentrating on several components. So, when it comes to being healthy, it looks at every aspect of health instead of just the physical. Do you realize that when we consider health, we usually look to see if our diet is right, or how often we exercise? There’s so much more to consider. I found out that there are several aspects you essential work on in order to consider yourself truly healthy. Among them are the obvious physical, but there’s also the intellectual and the spiritual to consider. If any of these is deficient, it could have earnest repercussions in your life. Ask yourself this, Am I really healthy? Yes, you work out religiously. Yes, you eat chicken breasts, and egg whites, and you take your vitamins, and do everything other a healthy person is expected to. But is there anything you’re missing? Let me ask you this: how often do work on relieving stress from your life? How often do you work on building positive relationships? How often do you seek to build spirituality in your life? These are just some of the aspects you must work on if you’re searching for true, and total health. Holistic doesn’t have to have a counter meaning. It can simply normal a philosophy of well- being that considers the physical, intellectual and spiritual aspects of life as being closely interconnected and balanced. I cover all of these points, and several much in my book, 5 Keys To Health: A Holistic Approach. I show you how to apply the holistic approach to health without any of the metaphysical mumbo jumbo. You can check it out at http://5keystohealth.com . Take it from me, a one-time skeptic. Holistic doesn’t have to be a four-lettered word. It can be something constructive that will help you create a fuller, healthier life. About The Author Edgar Cisneros is a health and fitness author. • Holistics?
    P. Sidney Parker

"Holistic" is the health industry's spic-and-span buzzword, most often associated with secondary medicine, the spic-and-span buzz phrase. The status of the word "holistic" has made it victim to advertisers and marketers, who are attaching it to everything low the sun. They know holistic is one of those words that instantly "validates" a product or service. I remember at the height of the no greasy craze, going into the supermarket and seeing pretzels prepackaged with No greasy boldly printed on the labels. Pretzels have always been one of the least fat full foods you could find. "Organic" began popping up on packaging during the height of the natural foods craze. The problem was and in whatsoever ways still is, each company had its own definition of organic. And now I see the same thing happening with the word "Holistic". A consumer sees "Holistic" in the product name or description and buy it thinking the product is somehow better. When asked what "holistic" is, precise few can answer correctly.

Synergistic - when parts work together for the benefit of the whole

In simplest terms holistic is the synergistic relationship of parts of a whole. So the term can be applied to any system, whether it be mechanical, electronic, a business, or health. Since I am in the health business I will speak about "holistic" in health terms. Be aware I am simplifying for the sake of time and space.

Holistic is as untold a concept, as it is a practice.

Our general wellness is resolute by the state of our supernatural (emotional) being, along with the state of our psychological being and our Physical being. If the Spirit, Mind, or Body is not well past our overall wellness is not at ease (dis-ease). In order to relieve the dis-ease of our wellness, we must receive holistic treatments. These treatments are actually a system or group of treatments that seek to affect the three elements of being, Spirit, Mind, and Body. A good example of this is (can be) aromatherapy, which through the application of unexpendable oils effects the physical being. At the same time the aroma "can" be soothing to the soul. A good therapist will take the time to speak with the ailing person, asking pertinent questions about their health and explaining what the treatment is expected to do. A caring nature is important for any therapist to have.

Sometimes the holistic treatment can not be provided in one location or by cardinal therapist. In that case in order for the treatment to be thoughtful holistic, each therapist working with a client must be aware of what the other therapist(s) is/are doing. The therapies must be carried out synergistically.

Holistic, in terms of health, means taking into consideration the three elements of the being, Spirit, Mind and Body, when attempting to regain or maintain an best state of Well-being. Any meditation or mind set training, by itself is not holistic. some food by itself is not holistic, any exercise by itself is not holistic.

A holistic state is only achieved when all three elements of the being are being addressed.

  • Diets and Slimming
    Ric Wiley

Its time to talk about diets. This but in America today there are many people who are overweight and, many of us need to think very seriously active a diet. I don’t like diets and I bet most of you don’t like them as well, but it’s a fact of life that many people in the US need to think active how to improve their well being. To help do this, one of the best ways is to diet. I didn’t want to get uncurled to the point but I think I need to. So here goes, Diet, Diet & Diet.

I’ve said it now so those of you who are not interested in reading about a diet can go and look at pictures of really fatty foods which are loaded with calories. Go down and eat loads for a week and then you’ll need to come back and read this page again because you too will need to diet.

Why do our bodies not like us? I find that anything I look at these days expands my waistline. I haven’t thought active eating it yet, I’ve just been looking at it and I find I need to go out and buy a spic-and-span pair of trousers. What’s more it’s getting worse. As I get old I find that the small bag of donuts I just ate makes me so disturbing I have to jog from Seattle to Chicago retributory to get rid of the unnecessary calories.

It’s not that distressing really but a lot of what I eat these days does seem to stay with me so I’ve decided to change my life style and start to diet. But where do I start. The problem is my body doesn’t need too galore calories to keep it going. Now that I’m old I am not as active so I need less, but my brain wants to tell me to enjoy myself and eat what I want. It says, “Go on, treat yourself, you deserve it”.

Well I don’t, what I do deserve is a slim, plain body but the only way is to eat little than my body needs. I can eat more but I then need to step up my exercise regime to compensate. The problem is that I’ve read somewhere that running a marathon consumes retributory 2600 calories. I could eat 2600 calories in retributory one meal. I don’t believe the 2600 calories marathon but it’s got me worried. So its diet time, but where do I start.

I could just decide to starve myself and cut down most of my daily intake of food but we all know that is not a sensible thing to do. What we need is a sensible diet regime which will help us to free the calories and stay trim and slim. The trouble with diets is that they are so hard to keep to and usually they single work on a temporary basis. Ok, you’re on the diet and you loose weight. Great, you can forget the diet now and go rearmost to normal and that’s the problem, you do go back to mean and so does your waistline.

It’s working with me because I have tied my diet to a sensible fitness lifestyle. I jog, do aerobics and lift weights as healed and the lower intake of calories and making my body burn much calories is making the diet work for me. It’s not just the diet though and you need to remember this. Link your diet to an exercise program and you will see the benefits of a diet. You will also be a lot fitter if you link the diet to fitness training or exercise. Remember though to keep a check on the calories. good luck

  • What Is A Holistic Practitioner?
    Jennifer Shapiro

Holistic Practitioners are holistic healing professionals with a gift in one or much areas of healing. From bodyworkers to homeopaths to hypnotherapists, the term holistic practitioner has become cardinal that is often challenging to describe or understand. Hopefully this article will provide you with some clarity on what a holistic practitioner is and how to find one that meets your separate needs.

Saying holistic practitioner is related to saying doctor. While there are general practitioners that cross along many paths, most specialize in cardinal or more holistic methods or areas. The main areas of specialization are body-centered therapists, energy-centered therapists, mind-centered therapists, soul and spirit-centered therapists, emotional release therapists, and coaches/counselors. All of these therapists strive to bring a greater quality of life to their clients. That may occur finished inner balance, self-empowerment, physical ease, or even soulful confidence.

One thing to realize is that many holistic practitioners work in galore areas. In fact, it is usually challenging to limit a practitioner to one area. For example, a hypnotherapist may also be a chakra therapist, a bodyworker could also be a supernatural counselor, etc. Also, since the mind-body-soul connection is just that, connected, wherever you begin, be it in energy work, bodywork, or even the mind, you will find that complete of you is affected by the work.

Use this article as a guide to explore the realms of possibilities, rather than limiting your choices to an area.

    Body-centered Therapists

Samples of body-centered therapists are bodyworkers, massage therapists, pilates and yoga therapists, rolfing professionals(often termed rolfers), acupressure therapists, myofascial release and sports massage therapists, reflexologists, thai massage therapists, watsu practitioners, feldenkrais and alexander method professionals, and movement therapists (this list is provided to offer an overview as there are at least 50 types of body-centered therapists).

While each body-centered therapist has their own way of working with clients, many use a combination of movement, the breath, and physical pressure (from massage to trigger points) to allow the body to release tension. This release of tension then allows the mind to also find a relaxing state. Sometimes the relaxation state is the goal of the sessions, other times, it is the true starting point.

    Energy-centered Therapists

Samples of energy-centered therapists are integrative energy workers, reiki practitioners, healing touch practitioners, breathwork therapists, jin shin do and jin shin jytsu therapists, matrix therapists, applied kinesiologists, orgone therapists, polarity workers, cranial sacral workers, qigong and tai chi masters. Acupuncturists and homeopathy practitioners could also be deemed energy workers.

Energy workers often work with vigorous ‘maps’ of the body. They look at where the energy is stuck, depleted or overtaxed in the body and work with the separate to bring a level of balance to the body’s energetic system. This balance also affects the mind and the general body, enhancing ones state of being on many levels.

    Mind-centered Therapists

Samples of mind-centered therapists are hypnotherapists, neuro-linguistic programming practitioners (NLP), integrative release therapists(IRT), regression therapists and metaphysicians.

Mind-centered therapists look at the structures of one’s belief systems and how they may be inconsistent with and/or not supporting a client’s quality of life. Mind-centered therapists often find the original cause of what the cragfast states are and work with the unconscious mind to reframe limiting patterns and beliefs which provide greater resources and confidence for the client to live the life they desire.

    Soul and Spirit-centered Therapists

Samples of soul and spirit-centered therapists are shamans, angelic masters, mental mediums, intuitive guides and spiritual counselors(who would also fall into the coaching/counseling category).

Soul and spirit-centered therapists work with clients in a variety of ways. A shaman may work with a client using soul retrieval to regain a part of their soul that has been ‘lost’ due to trauma. A psychic may offer an individual information on what will happen on their current path if they don’t make changes. An intuitive may assist a client in talking with a deceased loved one. As with the other categories, there are galore ways soul and spirit-centered therapists work with their clients.

    Emotional Release Therapists

Samples of emotional release therapists are consolidative release therapists, somato-emotional therapists, psych-k therapists and amanae therapists.

Emotional release therapists work with patterns of emotions that are stuck in the body/mind and assist a client in moving finished these blocks into greater joy and emotional freedom. Many other therapies, including neuro-linguistic programming, yoga, shamanic work and energy work employ emotional release methodologies.

    Holistic Coaches and Counselors

Samples of coaches and counselors are life coaches, empowerment coaches, spiritual and spontaneous counselors, holistic psychologists, and nutritional counselors.

Coaches and counselors assist clients in artful and manifesting the life, career, business and health situations that they truly desire. A holistic coach or counselor often works with a client 1-4x per month setting goals, introductory belief systems and partnering with the client to provide the support they need to move forward in their lives.

As you can see, the term holistic practitioner can be used to mean a holistic profession trained in any number of areas. Usually, a holistic practitioner will list their areas of expertise in any of their advertising to assist you in determining if they would be a fit for your unique situation.

For information on locating a holistic practitioner, please see my article on ‘Choosing a Holistic Practitioner’ or see Holistic Hometown (www.HolisticHometown.com) for holistic resources in your hometown, and beyond.

  • Advertising Your Holistic Business
    Jenifer Shapiro

The most basic answer is the unvarying answer as to the question, how does advertising work? Advertising works through repetition, and Holistic Hometown offers you that repetition.

What all boffo companies know is that advertising it a process. It’s been explicit in marketing files for over 50 years that latent clients, unless they are in need of your services when they initially see your ad, take 5-7 repetitions to recall who you are.

What does that mean? Well, if you are single advertising in cardinal source, it could mean you are wasting your time and money.

What’s the best way to begin an advertising campaign when the goal is visibility? Find sources that attract your target market AND that you can afford finished the longer term (1-3 years) for ongoing products/services and find targets with high repetition for shorter term (1+ months) for events and shorter-term needs.

For example, if I am marketing an event and have 2 months to market it, I will use the internet, e-mail marketing, and an ad in a monthly magazine to get the word out quickly. I may equal take out cardinal ads if it is a life-sized event. If I am, instead, marketing a product or service which will take current clients, I’ll use the same vehicles, smaller ads, and have them in the magazine current for a year or more.

People often ask me if that isn’t expensive. I tell them there are two reasons many businesses fail: they don’t spend enough on advertising, and they done spend their advertising dollars in the most hard-hitting ways. Think about it, if you spend a lot on advertising AND you receive a lot of customers from it, the advertising ends up not being very expensive aft all. In the same way, a cheap advertising option is actually expensive if you don’t get much customers from it.

One thing is for sure, I ALWAYS use the internet for advertising because of it’s high repetition and low cost (when done right). When someone comes to my site once, they almost always come rearmost to check something again. far there, there were 2 repetitions.

With Holistic Hometown, there is even much opportunity for repetitions because WE MARKET YOU through the web, direct mail, e-mail marketing, telemarketing, and more so that you get the most repetitions for the least amount of money.

A great additive opportunity with Holistic Hometown and internet marketing is that you can change your information anytime at no unnecessary cost. Therefore, if you decide to add an additional service, you just update your listing or ad. It’s a good thing to highlight new offerings for a hardly a months for highest visibility.

One thing I’ll ad present is that it is very influential that your ads are QUALITY ads. Remember that people see your ads before they meet you. That means often their opinion of you is created from the ad. A little than attractive or unprofessional ad is not the archetypical lead you want with a future client. Take your time, get the resources to do it far the first time, and you will reap the benefits of your time, money and energy.

  • Fitness
    Ric Wiley

Let’s admit it, we all want to be fit, or if not fully fit reach a higher level of fitness, I know I do so I guess you do as well. A higher equal of fitness is something we should all try to aim for, as there are so many benefits to a better equal of fitness. The reason there are so many web sites, books and TV programs active fitness is that a higher equal of fitness will be of benefit to you and help you to lead a better lifestyle.

So what are the benefits? Well cardinal of the starring benefits of a higher level of fitness is to help you free weight and this is particularly genuine in the case of excessive body fat. Putting a fitness program in place is should help in loosing weight. Dieting on its own may work but with a fitness program in place the chances are greatly increased.

Being better lowers your heart rate when at rest. This means your heart doesn’t have to work as hard when you are resting and being better also helps your body to take up more oxygen. This is circulated in your blood to your muscles and to your brain with the obvious benefits that fitness brings.

Fitness also helps to control or reduce your blood pressure levels, both diastolic as well as systolic. This has recently been particularly important for me personally as I have been troubled from hypertension and have been acknowledged medication by my physician to help reduce it. A problem of the medication has been to lower my heart rate which has meant little oxygen has been pumping round my body to my brain which often left me unmindful and confused. My work colleagues standing think I am confused but they laugh and tell me it is a sign of old age. I don’t really think they mean it it’s just the usual office joking, but I have answered them by getting fit and I have been working on a fitness regime for several weeks now and the benefits are evident. I am no longer confused, my weight has gone falling and body greasy is disappearing. I feel much better and my hypertension is now low control. Other benefits are that a higher fitness equal also helps to lessen the risk of heart disease and chance of having a stroke. Again I have been at risk here as I used to be a smoker but I’ve given that up as well. It’s not simple to raise your fitness when you smoke, so unkind that out helps as well.

There are other benefits to fitness which you should also think about. high fitness helps to increase your strength and stamina and this is especially important, as we get a infinitesimal older.

There are four starring areas we need to look at for a prissy fitness regime.

You need to develop a program of aerobic exercise to help develop your fitness. aerobiotic activity is a fitness training activity which is long in duration but low in intensity. This type of activity is exercises such as walking, biking, swimming and aerobic classes.

Take up resistance training, weight lifting to many of us, but I’m not qualified enough to discuss this in any depth. My fitness regime in this area consists of using miniscule weights (to begin with) as anything heavy and I’d give up on day one.

Take up flexibility exercises. Yoga is an excellent example, and finally

You need proper nutrition, a balanced diet of the proper foods to develop your levels of fitness and help to raise your fitness levels.

Because of these 4 reasons I suggest you think active your local gym or a own trainer. The experts are trained complete about fitness and can advise you on what is best for you. Everyone is diametric and the fitness program you find on the Internet or in a book may be unsuitable for you in your quest for higher fitness. One of the major hurdles though is motivation. To raise your fitness you need to be motivated. You cannot buy fitness fruit from the deli and retributory become fit. Fitness takes time and you need to work at it. Just take it steady at first. I’m 48, preserved most of my life and have been overweight for most of it. I’ve also suffered from hypertension and was thought to be diabetic at one stage. Now I can jog for 6 miles 3 times a week, I eat healthily, pump weights for an hour and walk complete day without some problems. How? healed I developed a fitness program, have worked at it, built it up and keep practicing. The result. My fitness levels are now higher than I ever though possible.

I did it, so now it’s your turn. Good luck.
