Lee Cummings As reported in the Los Angeles Times article on 2/19/05 “Suspect painkillers win fda panel ok”, The fda advisory panel “voted Friday, to let Doctors prescribe COX-2 painkillers, including Celebrex and Vioxx, but recommended stronger warnings about the risk of heart attacks and strokes.” Even after Merck removed Vioxx from the shelves last fall, And even aft Celebrex and Bextra have also been proven to increase heart attacks, stroke and death, the fda advisory panel now says that it is ok to sell these drugs and else COX-2 inhibitors, and they should only carry the "black box" warning. To say that this is confusing and breakneck to the public is an understatement. Because the fact of the matter is there are many people who naively think that if the fda approves something, it must be safe. They don't question this at all. They blindly follow the advice of their doctor and the fda. These are the people who are most at risk. To quote the article, “The panel proposed that Celebrex, Vioxx and Bextra, the third COX-2 drug cleared by the fda, carry the “black box” warnings - the strongest admonishment the fda can give to Doctors.” Let’s look at the word Admonishment. Admonishment – as defined in The American Heritage Dictionary – “To reprove mildly or kind but seriously” and “To counsel against something; caution” Hardly a strongly worded “warning” to give to Doctors. We’re talking about heart attacks, stroke And death. This is not a “watch your step” precautionary suggestion. What the fda is telling the public is that it is ok to take this class of drugs and risk your health or even death. long-life term use of COX-2 drugs can also raise your blood pressure. The article also states – “In the case of Vioxx – which was taken off the market voluntarily in the fall by its maker, Merck, after a company sponsored study confirmed the dangers – panel members voted to approve its use by a margin of two votes.” Does this really seem safe to you? I’m not sure when you’ll be asking yourself, “Is the fda really looking out for my health?” Are you awake that the COX-2 enzyme is a form of the cyclooxygenase enzyme and is produced by your body and plays an important role by helping to prevent blood clotting? Why would you suppress this consequential function of the body with drugs? Better, safer ways to combat pain and collective pain in particular exist which are less expensive and readily available without a prescription. You can evaluate them with a Doctor who is knowledge- able about food, supplements and herbs and decide what is right for You.     “Risks found with other pain killer” – This is the headline of an article from the New York Times.

    Surprise! Once again another mordacious “pain killer” Drug is found to cause heart attacks, stroke and death in unsuspecting users.

    This time it is Celebrex™. Remember that this drug was titled by David Graham, an employee of the fda’s office of drug safety, as cardinal of the best five dangerous drugs which would be the next problem.

    A five-year study by the National Cancer Institute which explored whether Celebrex™ prevented colon polyps and colorectal cancer, has saved that those attractive the drug had at least a 2.5 times high risk of cardiac events even at the lower dose.

    Recently, The New York Times published an article entitled – “U.S. calls for major cholesterol reductions” and which was also printed in numerous local papers.

    Sounds same a great way to fight heart disease, right?

    Let’s take a look at what the article does not tell you about cloudy your cholesterol. Because you must understand the effects of artificially lowering your cholesterol levels without implementing other strategies which are life-and-death to your health.

    Because the fact of the matter is the Framingham Heart study - which has followed people for over 5 decades - proved without a doubt that LDL cholesterol is just one of many misleading factors of heart disease.

    In fact, LDL cholesterol levels are only a very minor factor of heart disease and single under certain conditions.

    Here is a quote from Christie Ballantyne, M.D., a cardiologist from the Baylor College of Medicine – “The majority of people who end up having heart attacks or stroke don’t have high cholesterol.”

    Here is other quote from an article in the Red Flags regular By Malcolm Kendrick, M.D. who talks about the Framingham Study results as published in the Journal of the American Medical Association.

    “There is a direct association between falling cholesterol levels over the first 14 years and mortality finished the following 18 years.”

    You guessed it, the mortality rate goes UP.

    Scientific research has also proved without a doubt that as people lower their LDL cholesterol level, their chances for stroke go up.

    Using cholesterol lowering drugs may artificially lower cholesterol levels, however, they will also increase the death rate from stroke. And because of toxicity to the body, you will also face liver and kidney failure.
