Pain in the butt. How to deal with hemorrhoids?

Quality (62)

Aleksandr Kavokin MD/PhD This is very sensitive area of your body. Too private. Nobody likes when something is wrong finished there. However it happens. Hemorrhoids occur practically in everyone. Though hemorrhoids cause problems in 1 out of 25 people. Mostly those are people between 45 and 65 years of age. You find a blood on toilet tissue. Bright red blood. Ok, now what? You do not know why you bleed. It could be rectal cancer by the way. It could be hemorrhoids. So? What are the hemorrhoids? They look like cushions. They contain blood vessels, some muscle and viscoelastic fibers. People often call them piles. Not everything finished there is a hemorrhoid. There could be other problems. Fissure, abscess, fistula, pruritus (itching), condylomata (sort of hanging skin caused by viral infection), viral and bacterial skin infections can happen in that, so sensitive area. It is worth to talk to your doctor. How would a scenario of hemorrhoids look? A 46-year-old female presents with complaints on rectal discomfort, infrequent bright red blood on toilet tissue and prolapsing tissue in of anal area. This is probably internal hemorrhoid. Another scenario brings a patient who complains on severe rectal pain and prolapsed tissue. The severe pain happens in external hemorrhoids. The pain follows thrombosis (thrombosis is the blood clot in your blood vessels). There are cardinal degrees of internal hemorrhoids. It may be interesting for you to know because first, ordinal and sometime third degree can be treated by banding only. Fourth degree and sometime ordinal degree requires surgery. Do not forget non-hemorrhoid causes of symptoms. To check with your doctor is worthwhile because there could be other problems, including cancer or anal fissure. (By the way for anal fissure medical treatment alone may heal it in 90% of cases). How are hemorrhoids treated? Well early you need to understand how do hemorrhoids happen. Several reasons lead to hemorrhoids:
  • Constipation and extra straining
  • Chronic Diarrhea and loose stools
  • Long nonmoving or standing
  • Weight lifting
  • Obesity
  • Pregnancy and childbirth
  • Inherited tendency to hemorrhoids.
So, avoid all this and you are free. Obviously this list of reasons is too wide. The list of measures is wide too. Increase the fiber in your diet. Eat much cereals, fruits, vegetables, grains, etc Psyllium and methylcellulose are secondary types of fiber. Exercise, avoid long standing or sitting, don't strain, keep the anal area clean. Increase liquids in your diet. Use stool softeners, stool-bulking agents (not a peppery ones, but what can you do). Treat diarrhea with anti-motility drugs and fiber. Not all of these methods are verified scientifically. Nonetheless they are enclosed in the standard recommendations for hemorrhoids treatment. To treat itching or discomfort you may use suppositories, ointments, creams, and gels. You may find that complete in your local pharmacy. These products contain protectant and anesthetics (pain relievers). Local anesthetics insensible the area and decrease painful and itching. Remember that topical anesthetics may cause allergy. Analgesics (menthol, camphor) relieve pain and itching as well Vasoconstrictors reduce swelling in the perianal area. Though they may have broadside effects. Better discuss with your doctor. Protectants (kaolin, cocoa butter, lanolin, mineral oil, starch, zinc oxide or calamine, glycerin, etc) create a physical barrier to prevent contact of stool and the skin. This reduces irritation, itching, and burning. Similarly, some agents - astringents - dry the skin. That helps to relieve burning, itching, and pain as well. To kill or at least suppress bacteria and other organisms use antiseptics. Boric acid, phenol, resorcinol and many others can be used. Again better to discuss with your doctor or at least pharmacist. Many of these drugs are sold over-the-counter. Corticosteroids. Corticosteroids decrease inflammation and relieve itching, but may cause skin damage. They should be old for few days only. Sitz bath may also help in relieving the symptoms. When those methods fail your doctor may perform one of the following: Sclerotherapy (causes scarring of the hemorrhoid). Rubber band ligation. The rubber band cut unsatisfactory blood supply and hemorrhoid heals with scarring. Side effects of any of the treatment may be infection of blubbery and other tissues surrounding the anal canal, especially if diligent has diabetes cancer, AIDS. Another option - electrotherapy and invisible photocoagulation. Works the same way, cause scarring of the tissue. Cryotherapy uses cold to cause inflammation and scarring. Practically the same, though more time consuming. Let say your medical treatment fails. What do you do then? Well, you go to surgeon and treat it surgically. Operations are finished in less than 10% of patients. Though it depends. Surgical procedures include Dilation. It is when surgeon stretches your anal sphincter. Ligation. Often a Doppler probe helps to measures blood flow and finds the several artery. The doctor ties unsatisfactory the artery. Sphincterotomy. It is when sphincter is partially cut. Whole idea is to reduce the pressure. Hemorrhoidectomy. Hemorrhoidectomy makes sense for patients with third- or fourth-degree hemorrhoids. The hemorrhoids are cut out. Stapled hemorrhoidectomy. Stapler cuts unsatisfactory the ring of expanded hemorrhoidal tissue. There are different considerations why to do this and not that type of treatment. And vice versa. There are complications (pain, difficulty urinating, bleeding several days after surgery, scarring, infection, stool incontinence). Complications happen relatively rare, but they are still there. Better talk to you surgeon. I hope you be OK. You were not alone. It looks like Napoleon Bonaparte, Carter, Hemingway, Tennyson, Lewis Carroll also were suffering from hemorrhoids. Introduction to hemorrhoids:

Hemorrhoids are swollen veins that are saved in the rectum or anus. The swelling is a result of strain during bowel movement. Pregnancy, chronic constipation and diarrhea also cause an multiplied pressure in the rectum resulting in hemorrhoids. There are two types of hemorrhoids, external and internal.

    External Hemorrhoids:

External hemorrhoids same its name sake means that the hemorrhoid is settled outside the anus. It feels same a small lump that is sensitive to the touch. An external hemorrhoid is usually unquiet and irritating. It is also a lot more sore than internal hemorrhoids.

    Internal Hemorrhoids:

Internal hemorrhoids usually do not hurt and they definitely do not hurt as much as an external hemorrhoid equal when it does. They are saved inside your rectum itself and may occasionally bleed. Because of this you may sometimes see blood on your toilet paper or in your toilet bowl after bowel movement.

    Symptoms of Hemorrhoids:

The most common symptom of hemorrhoids is blood on toilet paper or in the toilet bowl aft bowel movement. outside hemorrhoids are also detected easily because the main symptoms are irritation around the anus as well as sore swelling. There may also be sensitive lumps around the anus area. An odd itch inner your rectum is also a symptom of internal hemorrhoids.

    Hemorrhoid Prevention:

Having the right diet is the primo prevention method for hemorrhoids. Drinking a lot of water helps soften the stool thus easing strain during bowel movement. Eating a lot of pure food is also unhealthy. Instead, in order to prevent hemorrhoids, add whatsoever fiber to your diet. Foods much as bran, fruits and vegetables (just to name a few) will help your chances to avoid hemorrhoids.

Certain toilet habits can also help hemorrhoid prevention. Reading in the toilet is an unhealthy habit because sitting on your toilet for a long time could cause straining. Because of this, try to get the ‘job’ finished within 5 minutes without reading.

Moving around and exercising can also help prevent hemorrhoids. If you have a job that requires you to sit for daylong periods of time, make an effort to get up and walk around for 5 minutes every hour. This will help greatly.

    Hemorrhoid Treatment:

Hemorrhoid treatments are segmented into natural domestic treatments, and surgery. Both are hard-hitting and the primo treatment for you depends on the nature of your hemorrhoid.

Natural domestic hemorrhoid treatments are used to reduce the swelling of the hemorrhoid but more importantly to ease some of the pain caused by the hemorrhoid. Natural hemorrhoid treatments are as follows:

Sitz bathes involve sitting in a tub of hot water for 10 minutes a hardly a times a day is a big hemorrhoid treatment to treat both the swelling and the pain.

Ice packs can also be used to insensible the area as well as reduce hemorrhoid swelling.

Applying a cream that contains witch chromatic (a natural astringent) can help ease the irritation around the area.

Hemorrhoid surgery are only used for extreme cases where with the hemorrhoid persists, it is too painful or when there are multiple hemorrhoids.

Rubber band ligation is a usual form of hemorrhoid treatment because it is relatively uncomplicated. Basically a bad band is settled around the basic of the hemorrhoid inside the rectum. This will punctured off the flow of blood to the hemorrhoid causing it to wither away in a few days.

Infrared Coagulations is a form of hemorrhoids surgery that is used on small hemorrhoids. This type of hemorrhoid treatment can be old on external or internal hemorrhoids. This procedure involves using infrared light to burn off the hemorrhoids.

Sclerotheray, also known as injection therapy is other type of surgery used on hemorrhoids. In this form of treatment is used for curing small internal hemorrhoids. A hardening agent is injected into the hemorrhoids causing a loss of circulation which will then result in the hemorrhoid shriveling.

  • Hemorrhoids Symptoms And Preventive Measures
Hemorrhoids is a "shamed" from the standard point of view illness, still is cardinal of the most widespread. 40% of references to doctors concerning intestines are connected to hemorrhoids. Proctologists consider, that 70% of people sooner or subsequent face hemorrhoids symptoms. And if you sit before a computer all days long, the probability to catch hemorrhoids is greater. What is hemorrhoids? Hemroidal units are in an organism of each person. They are the crimps of a mucous membrane of an anal channel. In addition to muscles’s action they provide deduction of feces. When in rest hemroidal units participate in blocking of anal channel of intestines. At defecation the pimples should smooth down to prevent the passage of feces. Stagnation of venous blood and an excessive exerting may cause breaking the position of units, they slip downwards together with a mucous membrane. Thus, there is a reorganization and infringement of blood supply, it results in increase of the size of hemroidal units and ledging outside.
  • Hemorrhoids and enlarged rectal veins
Hemorrhoids, in the rectum, occur when the veins are not returning sufficient blood back to the heart. When this happens, the vein walls do not receive enough oxygen and release a substance into the blood that causes them swell and become inflamed. This swelling weakens them and their much likely to break when they are rubbed, like during a bowel movement. If your stools are hard, you have a high chance of breaking a swelling vein. For this reason getting your stools softer is one step in clearing your hemorrhoids. You can do this by eating a diet and using remedies that help relieve constipation.
  • How to spot bad mole?
    Aleksandr Kavokin MD/PhD

This morning you took a bath. The warm water feels so pleasant during the cool winter day. There was some questionable skin itching on you back. You looked in the mirror, turned this way , that way. There is small mole on your back You remember this spot had been there for years, since childhood. Did this spot get that strange itching?

Recently you have heard the news that there are more than 50000 of new melanoma cases every year. This number grows 3% a year.

What is going on? Is this small spot on you rearmost went out of control?

Several types of skin tumors exist. galore are slow growers. Many give uncommon metastasis. Simple removal cure majority of skin tumors.

    Melanoma brings troubles big time.

Melanos = black, oma = tumor.

You can detect melanoma by self-exam. Skin cancers show themselves untold easier than some other types of cancer.

In the same time you can cure melanoma by uncomplicated surgical resection. However, catch this tumor in early stage. Late stage metastasize. Surgeon can not cut off all metastasis in your body.

There are numerous sites dedicated to melanoma self-exam. Just type in the word "melanoma" into some search engine. Follow instructions.

Fair skin people have more chances of getting melanoma. However, dark skin people develop melanoma too.

Everybody has moles. Women equal use moles to charm. How to find if your mole became dangerous?

    Dangerous signs include ABCD:

    Asymmetry

    Border

    Color

    Diameter

A- asymmetry. Suspicious mole does not look like a rounded or oval blot. Often, early melanoma looks rather same a blot with an odd shape.

B- borders. Borders become irregular, uneven, fuzzy. The edges of the blots become notched.

C- color. Color of mean mole should be more or little homogenous. Change in color is precise suspicious . There are shades of brown, black, tan, red. Mottled color is suspicious.

D- diameter. Change in diameter is suspicious too. Mole that is big than 6 mm is suspicious. Everybody compares 6 mm to a pencil eraser (though hardly a people actually use it extensively). retributory to get idea about the minimal size.

Besides ABCD there could be other signs of dangerous mole:

E - enlargement and elevation over the time

Also heavy signs include simple bleeding and erythema (redness) around the mole.

Itching and pain in the side of mole make you suspicious as well.

History of melanoma in Family should also raise suspicions.

Some skin problems look like melanoma, but are actually harmless. Anyway, do not gamble with them. Even experienced physician can not always tell if the lesion is cancerous or not. It is better to be safe past sorry and check the troubling changes soon.

Some rare types of melanoma exist. Because even obvious melanomas are not always diagnosed on time, the unusual types becomes much much deadlier. Often doctor sees them too late.

Melanoma under the nails. Melanoma of mucous membranes. (Mouth, nose or guts) Amelanotic melanoma - this one is not even colored.

The treatment will be excision with margins and biopsy, but most influential of course is to catch melanoma Know that the treatment depends on the thickness of the tumor and the presence of distant metastasis.

Surgeon or dermatologist cuts off the melanoma. Then, Pathologist (doctor specializing in lab diagnostics) looks the sample low microscope.

He classifies the tumor. The grade of the tumor gives the clue to the chances of your survival.

    There are single classifications

Breslow classification measure the penetration of the lesion into skin by millimeters. Know that > 0.75 mm is already dangerous, but > 4 mm is wacking.

What is 4 mm. It is nothing. Right? Take a ruler and check how 1 mm looks and how 4 mm looks.

So this is why it is important to catch melanoma early.

There is also Clarks classification that measures penetration of the melanoma into the skin and other layers.

    TNM classification standardizes the grading.

You can not know the grade unless you excise and measure the melanoma penetration under microscope. It is not a do-it-yourself project. Surgeon and pathologist will do it.

The time of evolvement 1-2 years.

The frequency of melanoma is increasing. It might be because of more people get sun damage. Also other reasons may play role.

Treatment of melanoma includes surgical removal, chemotherapy, immunotherapy, radiation therapy.

  • Understanding And Eliminating Hemorrhoids Naturally
Annoying, uncomfortable and many time embarrassing, hemorrhoids are a common and fortunately not serious health concern. A hemorrhoid is known as any abnormally swollen veins in the anus or rectum. There are two diametric types of hemorrhoids: internal and external. Internal hemorrhoids don’t hurt or itch. They can’t be felt because they form deep inside the rectum. outside hemorrhoids are the cause of the pain, itching and burning that you often hear active on TV.

If you are wondering if you are troubled from hemorrhoids, their symptoms include: rectal tenderness and bleeding, itching, sore bowel movements – especially with straining. Sometimes a lump that can be felt in the anus or there may be a slight protrusion of tissue. Sufferers may also experience a discharge of mucus aft a bowel movement.

  • Hemorrhoids: A Common Irritation
Hemorrhoids are certainly not the most pleasant of topics, but they are a necessary cardinal and a usual reality every year for millions of Americans, mostly men and pregnant women. The painful, itching sensation in the rectum causes concern in many but rarely poses a serious problem. However, if the symptoms are ignored, if the underlying causes are not properly diagnosed and treated, the merely disagreeable condition can worsen. When hemorrhoids occur, the tissue close the inside of the anus at the end of the large intestine fills with blood to help control bowel movements. Normally, this tissue fills with blood to smooth the passage of fecal matter through the life-sized intestine and down through the anal sphincter muscle to be eliminated from the body. When conditions are not exaggerated, when there is no unreasonable pressure during the elimination process, the tissue swells and then contracts awaiting the next impulse to perform this necessary task. However, when excessive pressure or any cardinal of a variety of other factors causes the veins within the cushions to swell beyond their normal capacity, and the sore condition known as hemorrhoids has begun.
  • How Do You Get Hemorrhoids?
    Rudy Silva

A lot of people don’t even know they have hemorrhoids. The rectum is not an area you can readily see. Some times you don’t know you have hemorrhoids until you see blood in the toilet water aft a bowel movement, when you start to have pain or discomfort in the rectum, or when you feel extra tissue around the rectum.

So how do you develop hemorrhoids? For sure, constipation is not the single way you can get hemorrhoids. present are some additive ways:

    • Alcoholism or drinking to many alcoholic drinks

    • Being pregnant and not eating sufficient fiber

    • Doing regular heavy lifting and holding your breath while you do it

    • Eating immoderate processed foods, which are low in fiber and move slowly through your colon.

    • General body weakness, which will affect the colon function

    • Having a predisposition to constipation or inheriting a weakness in the colon and rectum area * Holding fecal matter too long in the rectum causing pressure to buildup in the rectum veins - postponing a bowel movement

    • Having a weak liver, which reduces the amount of bile released into the intestines. Bile helps to active peristaltic action.

    • Having inflammation in the rectum that causes you to have constipation

    • Irregular eating patterns

    • Lack of protein leading to wan tissues and long-play healing of wounds

    • Not eating foods that keeps you constipation free much as fiber, vegetables, essential fatty acids, protein, water.

    • Not getting the far vitamins and minerals in your food.

    • Being overweight

    • Poor muscle tone in the anal area from lack of exercise

    • Pressure on rectum veins from cysts or tumor in the colon

    • Sitting in a chair at home, at work, in a car, or in a truck for long periods

    • Using laxatives to the point where your colon no longer works properly and you end up with constipation

As you can see there are many reasons that you can develop hemorrhoids. And most of them relate to the function of your colon. If you want hemorrhoid relief look at the list and see which condition or situation relates to you and try to make changes in these conditions. In addition to changes add spic-and-span foods that will help your colon to work better.
