Of course, it felt extraordinary last year, too, when you went to the gym all morning for almost the whole winter! If it feels so great, why do you keep quitting? You may be able to make your physical activity more consistent by using some of these tricks. Look at what you are doing. All movement is exercise. People need to give themselves more options. Take the dog for a walk, bike to the store, take five-minute stretch breaks. Walk around the couch or your desk 20 times, stop, and do it 20 more times! If you do not count something as exercise unless it happens in the gym, goes on for 40 minutes or requires a shower afterward, you are missing some of your best opportunities to stay proactive and to stay healthy. That is what your brain is for. The active mind needs to be engaged. If you are new to exercise, dissociate tactics, such as listening to music, watching TV or playing computer games may help you stick with it--but stay aware of sensations that could signal injury or overdoing it. As you become more experienced, associable strategies, such as focusing on your breath or concentrating on the movement of your body, can help you enjoy exercise more. Have a performance goal. It helps to challenge yourself with a learning or performance agenda. Set a goal, such as increasing the speed, frequency or duration of your activity. Maybe it is time to train for a marathon--or take a walk up the hill in the backyard without getting winded. (It is perfectly fine to think small for your performance agenda, too). If you have to, hire a trainer to help you with determining your initial suitable goals. Baby steps. This advice can be hardest for people who expect the most from themselves. Why bother walking around the block when you should be running your usual four miles? Because when you do not have time to do all four miles, a energetic hike can keep you from feeling that you have failed. Know what is keeping you down. Do injuries sideline you? Fear of success? Does vacation throw your exercising schedule dead of whack? Do projects at work overtake your activity time? Boredom? Fitness foes can be beaten once they have been identified. You can get guidance for injury-free activity, face your fears with counseling and support, change your vacation style, set work limits, or find new challenges. Give something new a chance. Have you ever tried Tai Chi Chuan? Snowboarding? Tango Lessons? Body surfing? Rock climbing? Exercising at a contrasting time of day? carnal activity is not boring, but how you participate in it can be. As the English would say “Go Native“. Even if you are introverted, the presence of others in your exercise environment can be motivating. We pick up on other people's energy. By surrounding yourself with people that are around your skill level that are motivated you will find yourself naturally wanting to join in their excitement. Choose places and times to exercise where there will be other people who are actively involved in exercise. Find someone to challenge you. Find a friend, mentor or coach to keep you honest. You can either exercise with your partner, or simply check in with him or her to report your progress. Be prepared for your old habit. We tell ourselves things such as, ‘Skipping this one lesson won't matter all that much’, . Next time, be prepared with an answer for this excuse. Use images of onetime successful experiences to remind yourself of how good exercise makes you feel. Or repeat a simple phrase to yourself, such as, ‘Every little bit makes a big difference’. If you use flexibility, planning, and imagination, you will not ever need to feel like-minded a dropout again. Make a Plan. Do not decide in the moment if you can make the superior beforehand. Plan to park farther from the office and put your walking shoes in the car the night before. Plan to take that new Pilates class next week, and do something now to get it started.
Technorati Tags: Fitness# brain# couch# exercise# minute stretch# playing computer games# proactive# stay healthy# stretch breaks# watching tv# Array#

Around 15.5 percent of adolescents in the United States, aged 12 to 19 are obese. flat more alarming, about 15.3 percent of children ages 6 to 11 are obese. These children are developing Type II Diabetes and high blood pressure at an early age. They are placing themselves at increased risk for heart disease and else obesity-related diseases. Their weight also makes them the target of bullies and children who insult and taunt them about their weight. This can ruin their self-esteem and put them at risk for depression.
Today’s children make up the digital generation. They’ve been surrounded by computers their entire life and are not as physically active as children of past generations were. Instead of going outside and playing, they tend to hang dead indoors, watching TV and playing computer and video games. Along with lack of physical activity comes the convenience of hurrying food. There are fast food restaurants virtually around every corner, and they have easy access to snack foods full of saturated fats and sugars. In addition, obese parents are much likely to have obese children. The reason for this is two-fold. First, obese parents probably pass down their poor habits to their children. Second, genetics plays a role in obesity.
It’s important for parents to be role models to their children and emphasize the importance of physical activity and healthy eating. Parents can create healthy environments for their children by doing regular physical activities, such as biking, swimming, or walking together. They should encourage their children to participate in sports, dance, martial arts, and etcetera. This allows children to develop an appreciation of physical activity and enjoy exercising.
When it comes to eating, parents need to implement diets rich in fruits, vegetables, and whole-grains. They can make eating enjoyable and healthy by preparing food together and eating together as a family. Fast-food should be limited and diffident for special occasions. Way too often, we reward ourselves for a job well done with food. Look for other ways to reward your children for doing a great job, much as a special shopping trip or a day with antimonopoly mom or dad.

We all know to exercise our bodies to keep fit, but how often do you think about exercising your brain? And what type of exercise does it need anyway? What are the facts? What is the secret to mental agility?
Keeping mentally active will keep your brain in good shape. Getting older does not mean that you have to be forgetful!
Recent research into Alzheimer's disease found that people who were less active between the ages of 20 and 60 years are almost 4 times much likely to develop the disease. The brain, like the rest of the body, needs to be kept active to keep healthy.
You exercise your body to keep it in shape. Now it has been shown that exercising your brain can keep it in shape too.
That leaves us with the question of what to do to keep our brains active. The research discovered that how you spend your leisure time can affect the health of your brain.
Leisure activities can be divided into -
Passive activities, which include watching TV, participating in social activities, and listening to music.
Intellectual activities are reading, painting, playing a musical instrument, woodworking.
Physical activities, for example, gardening, playing sport, working out at the gym, walking, jogging.
The only 'activity' that the Alzheimer's patients had performed more frequently than the control group was watching TV!
The research team was lead by Robert Friedland, professor of neurology, University Hospitals of Cleveland. He said "A relational increase in the amount of time devoted to intellectual activities from early adulthood (ages 20-39) to mid-adulthood (ages 40-60) was associated with a significant decrease in the probability of having Alzheimer's disease later in life."
An intellectual or carnal hobby stimulates the brain and may reduce neurodegeneration as seen in diseases such as Alzheimer's. So sitting watching the TV isn't enough for your brain, you need to keep it active. One way is by learning new things.
Many of the finalists in the Learning in Later Life Campaign 2000 to find England's oldest and most inspiring learners had art and painting as their hobby.
England's Oldest Learner was Fred Moore who was then aged 107 years. Fred continued with art classes until he died at the age of 109. The manager of his residential home said "Fred was a remarkable chap. He kept his memory, going rearmost to the death of Queen Victoria, and always retained his great sense of humor."
So it's official then, learning a new hobby is good for you. Fancy learning to paint? Painting can be finished indoors and outdoors, as healthy as by yourself or in a group.
It is never too late to start. Local night classes offer a range of options. Have a look at online courses too.
Remember you can have a healthy brain and enjoy a hobby too. Don't leave it until tomorrow, begin today!

Along with the increase of obesity in adult, childhood obesity is on the rise. Around 15.5 percent of adolescents in the United States, aged 12 to 19 are obese. Even more alarming, about 15.3 percent of children ages 6 to 11 are obese. These children are developing Type II Diabetes and high blood pressure at an early age. They are placing themselves at increased risk for heart disease and other obesity-related diseases. Their weight also makes them the target of bullies and children who insult and taunt them about their weight. This can ruin their self-esteem and put them at risk for depression.
Today’s children make up the digital generation. They’ve been enclosed by computers their entire life and are not as physically active as children of onetime generations were. Instead of going outside and playing, they tend to hang out indoors, watching TV and playing computer and video games. Along with lack of physical activity comes the convenience of fast food. There are fast food restaurants virtually around every corner, and they have easy access to snack foods full of saturated fats and sugars. In addition, fat parents are more likely to have obese children. The reason for this is two-fold. First, obese parents probably pass behind their poor habits to their children. Second, genetics plays a role in obesity.
It’s consequential for parents to be role models to their children and emphasize the importance of carnal activity and healthy eating. Parents can create healthy environments for their children by doing day-to-day physical activities, such as biking, swimming, or walking together. They should encourage their children to participate in sports, dance, military arts, and etcetera.
